Hot Water Heaters

No hot water? Call Quality Water Systems at 1-800-332-9462.
You don't realize how much you rely on hot water until it's gone: a cold shower, a sink full of dishes, laundry piling up. A leaking tank is even more stressful, because water on the basement floor can damage what's around it. Whether your water heater has quit or is just acting up, we'll find the cause and explain your options plainly so you can decide what's right for your home.
Quality Water Systems has been taking care of home water systems since 1975. We work from Salem, Ohio and serve homeowners across Ohio, PA & West Virginia. We service and install both electric and gas water heaters.
Signs your water heater needs attention
- No hot water, or it runs out much faster than it used to.
- Water that's only lukewarm, or temperature that swings up and down.
- Water around the base of the tank, or a drip from the fittings or the relief valve pipe.
- Rumbling, popping or banging from the tank. Sediment buildup at the bottom is a common cause.
- Rusty or discolored hot water, while the cold water looks normal.
- A smell from the hot water only.
- A pilot light that won't stay lit on a gas unit.
- It's getting old, and you don't know when it was last serviced.
Common causes
- Gas units: a pilot or ignition problem, a bad thermocouple or gas valve, or a venting issue.
- Electric units: a failed heating element, a bad thermostat or a tripped breaker.
- Any tank: sediment buildup, a worn anode rod, a stuck or leaking relief valve, or a tank that has started to rust through.
- Not always the heater: problems in the plumbing, or hard or iron-heavy well water, can affect hot water too. If your water quality is part of the problem, we can talk about water treatment.
What to expect on a service call
- We ask what's happening. When it started, what you see and hear, and how old the heater is.
- We check it safely. Power or gas supply, controls, valves, venting and the tank itself.
- We explain what we found and give you a clear repair or replacement price before any work starts.
- We fix it or replace it. If we replace the heater, we help you choose the right type and size for your household, remove the old unit and install the new one. We haul away the old tank.
- We test it and walk you through it before we leave: where the shutoffs are and what to keep an eye on.
Repair or replace?
A thermostat, element, valve or ignition part can often be replaced on its own, and that may be all you need. Replacement usually makes more sense when the tank itself is leaking, when the heater is older and repairs keep adding up, or when it no longer keeps up with your household. We'll give you an honest recommendation either way.
Thinking about tankless?
Some homeowners ask about switching to a tankless water heater. It isn't the right fit for every home, and it depends on things like your fuel type, venting and how your household uses hot water. If you're curious, see our tankless water heater page, and we'll talk it through on the visit.

Frequently asked questions
Why do I have no hot water?
On a gas unit, it's often a pilot, ignition or gas valve problem. On an electric unit, it's often a heating element, thermostat or tripped breaker. A leaking or very old tank can also fail. A service call finds the cause.
Why is my water heater making popping or rumbling noises?
Sediment often settles at the bottom of the tank and makes noise as the water heats. Flushing may help on some heaters. We'll check it and tell you whether it needs service or replacement.
Should I repair or replace my water heater?
Replacing a part like a thermostat, element or valve often makes sense. If the tank is leaking, the heater is older, or repairs keep adding up, replacement is usually the better value. We'll explain your options before any work starts.
Can you install a tankless water heater?
Yes, we install tankless water heaters. Tankless isn't the right fit for every home. It depends on your fuel type, venting and hot water use. We can look at your setup and talk through whether it makes sense.
